You’re pregnant! Congratulations
Hopefully you’ve had a good pregnancy and are feeling like a goddess?? No?! Well you aren’t alone if you’re struggling through it; sickness, tiredness and the baby sapping all your energy can often make it difficult to feel like you’re blooming.
And it’s totally normal to swing between feeling amazing and feeling awful (that will probably continue throughout your journey into motherhood!)
But at some point during your pregnancy, your attention will turn to the fact that you actually need to give birth. You begin to wonder how on earth a baby is going to come out of your vagina, and how you will cope with the excruciating pain that everyone is always telling you about. And that's where I come in :)
What is hypnobirthing?
Hypnobirthing is a full antenatal course which focuses on teaching you how to work with your body, rather than fighting against it. But not all hypnobirthing courses are the same so read on to find out if mine is suitable for you.....
The You, Me & Baby course
The You, Me & Baby course is a fresh, new, no- nonsense approach to hypnobirthing. I have written it from scratch myself which has enabled me to build in all the latest research, up to date findings and add in all the knowledge I've gained over the past few years.
I will teach you all the important stuff about birth; how your body will work during labour, and all the amazing hormones that are released to help baby on its journey to meet you. I also explain all the things that you can influence in order to help make your baby’s journey that bit smoother.
What makes this course different?
There is no airy-fairy stuff on my course. It is a common sense way to prepare for birth. I don't pretend birth is going to be easy. I don't promise you it won't hurt. I don't promise you a 'perfect' birth. What I do is equip you to cope with anything that might happen throughout your labour, enable you to make the right decisions for you and your baby, and help you to work as a team. You will understand what you need to do and how you can both achieve that.
And it doesn't end when you leave the course....I continue to be there to hold your hand every step of the way. You can email or phone me up until the birth, and after! My previous clients will testify that when they have needed extra support due to baby being breech, or testing positive for GBS, or being offered an induction, I have been there to help them navigate the mass of information and make those difficult decisions.
Your birth toolbox
After learning some of the theory, we then spend a large part of the course focusing on the practical tools and techniques you can use on the day to stay calm and in control throughout your labour.
This is the part where the birth partners really learn exactly how they can help you and begin to realise they have an important part to play.
Why you sometimes need extra support to navigate our maternity system
I also spend some time explaining why the current maternity system doesn’t always provide you with the information you need to make important decisions relating to your birth. I have an extensive library of useful information on topics such as Group B Strep, Breech Birth, VBAC, induction of labour, Caesarean birth and many more and can run private sessions on any of these topics if necessary.
Does it work?
Yes! There is clinical research proving the benefits of hypnobirthing:
- Less reported pain
- Shorter labour
- Less medication
- More frequent spontaneous births (i.e no need for induction of labour)
- Fewer incidence of post natal depression
The techniques you learn can be used in any setting, with whatever birth you are planning.
"I was a bit of a skeptic and you've completely changed my mind! I had a lot of worries and anxiety about the birth of my baby and using your techniques and CD made me go from wanting to opt for a caesarean delivery to managing to deliver my baby without any pain relief!"
